"Servere Weather Conditions"

on 10 Jan : 16:33  Posted by James Stokell  Category: James' Life   Comments: 221
Ok, so just in case you haven't noticed its been snowing quite a lot in Canterbury & Ramsgate (where I frequent) and I've been loving it, but anyway here is a photo of a beautiful Snow-woman I saw on my way to get 2pints of Semi Skimmed Milk from the local garage.

PS
I really hope the first day of Uni is cancelled due to the weather :D

ValuablesDB.com

on 02 Jan : 11:16  Posted by James Stokell  Category: James' Web Projects   Comments: 228
I've just bought my new domain for my Individual Study Project at Canterbury Christ Church University its ValuablesDB.com, can't really say much more as I might get in trouble for discussing my University work, but trust me I think its a great concept and I can't wait to launch it to the public in the future :).

*UPDATE* - 10/Jan/09
Ok, so I just decided I don't like " ValuablesDB.com" so much, and have just bought TheValuablesVault.com as well, it has a better ring to it :).

LED Moving Sign Project

on 02 Jan : 09:01  Posted by James Stokell  Category: James' Tech Projects   Comments: 221
A few days ago I received my new LED Sign, now the second one I own, both are exactly the same model and bought from eBuyer.com, quick find code; 135289 - Multi Colour Led Moving Sign.

I am very happy with it, and it works just fine stand-alone, but I want to do so much more with it. Ideally, as I've just learnt how to interface with twitter via the Twitter_API I wanted it to quite simply get the last 20 tweets of me and my twitter friends (so 20 tweets total for all of us) and display how made the tweet, what time it was made and what the tweet says. I thought this would be relatively simply but sadly it turns out that the sign can only be updated via its own software, as far as I can work out (which can be downloaded here: LED Moving Sign Software).

If anyone can tell me how to make a program in VB, C++, or really any program language on Windows that can interface with an RS232 device, or even just how to do this in CMD so that I can attempt to make a program that send updates to this sign at regular intervals I'd really appreciate it - and on top of that will link to your site (if you have one) on my Mates Page

Oopsy, sorry Sky

on 31 Dec : 14:41  Posted by James Stokell  Category: James' Life   Comments: 159
So, my Gran, bless her, bought Sky Movies for Christmas as she always does so we can watch loads of great films for a low low price (no I don't work for Sky). Anyway with this I then went and used my XBOX 360 to watch loads of Sky Movies and it seams Sky don't wave the broadband limit when you use their own services as I hoped they would and exceeded the 10GB bandwidth limit I have with Sky Broadband.

Very nicely Sky Broadband let you off the first month you go over the limit and just throttle your connection to a speed similar to dialup - and I'm only about 9days into this month's bandwidth limit so I'm a little screwed right now. Anyway, Sky Broadband very nicely have a "Usage Tool" which told me I managed to download *gets exact figures* 30.55GB in about 10 days (and that's just to date). Apparantly if I do it again in the next 5 months they will automatically upgrade my package (but I don't pay for it so that sounds pretty reasonable).
